DESCRIPTION:

In the 4th series of shirts released for Newcastle United by Puma, they would bring blue as the home shirts tertiary colour; a first for the club since the home shirt used between 2003-05. Regrettably, the shirt (and the club) would draw criticism for the use of Wonga.com as the clubs main shirt sponsor, the controversy aside, the blue is a classy touch in breaking up the default black and white stripes that are synonymous with the club’s home shirt.

THE SEASON:

The 2012-13 season would bring Newcastle United back down to earth after finishing a somewhat disappointing 16th place. A Europa League quarter final place however would have fans clamouring for more European football, and that would be the goal ahead of the new campaign for Alan Pardew’s charges. Loic Remy would be the only acquisition in the summer, as Demba Ba’s void was to be filled by the presence of the Frenchman. The new season would do nothing to abate their poor 2013 form until November, where they would win 7 of their last 10 league games of the year; almost as many as they did in the 10 preceding months of the year! Following their 5-1 win over Stoke City on Boxing Day; Newcastle would sit in 6th place and just 6 points shy of 1st place Arsenal! Newcastle would lose their talisman midfielder: Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint Germain in the January Transfer Window, and his departure would signal a terrible 2014 portion of the season where they would win just 5 of their 19 league games. In spite of the downward spiral in the second half of the season, Newcastle United would still finish in a more than respectable 10th place.

The notable players that season were:
